EM2 7th Grade Mod 3

TermDefinition
angles at a point A set of adjacent angles, such as ∠CAB, ∠BAD, ∠DAE, and ∠EAC in the diagram, that share a common vertex and have measures that sum to 360°
complementary angles Two angles with measures that sum to 90°
solution set The set of all solutions of an equation or inequality
supplementary angles Two angles with measures that sum to 180°
vertical angles Nonadjacent angles, such as ∠DAE and ∠BAC, that are formed when two lines intersect at exactly one point. Similarly, ∠CAD and ∠BAE are also vertical angles.
adjacent Angles that share a vertex and a side
angles A figure formed by two rays or lines that share common endpoint, called a vertex
angles on a line adjacent angles that share a vertex on a straight line and whose measures add up to 180°
equation A mathematical statement that two expressions are equal
equivalent expression Two expressions that name the same number regardless of which value is substituted for the variable
expression a mathematical statement that consists of numbers, variables, and at least one arithmetic operation
factor a number that divides another number evenly or a number that can be multiplied by another number to get a different number
grouping symbols parentheses (), brackets [], and braces {}
inequality a mathematical statement relating two expressions that are not necessarily equal
like terms terms that have the exact same variable raised to the exact same powers
linear pair two angles such as ∠BAC and ∠CAD form a linear pair if ray AB and ray AD are opposite rays on a line and ray AC is any ray
number sentence a statement of equality between two numerical expressions which can be true or false
straight angles An angle that measures exactly 180°, formed by two rays pointing in opposite directions to create a straight line
term A single number, variable, or product of numbers and variables in an expression
variable A symbol that represents a number
