The muscles in the face and scalp (chapter 2)
| Term | Definition |

| Frontalis | The facial and scalp muscle that raises your eyebrows, draws the scalp forward and causes wrinkles in the forehead. |
| Epicranious | This muscles covers the top of the skull, and has two parts, the occipitalis and frontalis. |
| Occipitalis | The back of the epicranious; the muscle that draws the scalp backward. |
| Corrugator | The muscle located beneath the frontalis and orbicularis oculi; draws the eyebrow down and wrinkles the forehead vertically. |
| Orbicularis Oculi | The ring of muscle in the eye socket; it closes the eye. |
| Levator Palpebra Superioris muscle | Controls the eyelid and can be easily damaged during the makeup application. |
| Pocerus | Lowers the eyelids and causes wrinkles across the bridge of the nose. |
| Nasalis | A two part muscle that covers the nose and includes the transverse part and alar part, which flair the nostrils. |

| Buccinator | The thin, flat, muscle of the cheek between the upper and lower jaw that compresses the cheeks and expels air between the lips. |
| Triangularis/ depressor anguli oris | The muscle extending alongside the chin that pulls down the corners of the mouth. |
| Levator anguli oris | The muscle associated with smiling |
| Mentalis | The muscle that elevates the lower lip and raises and wrinkles the skin of the chin. |
| Risorius | The muscle that draws the corner of the mouth back and out when grinning. |
| Levator Labii superioris | A muscle associated with lifting the wings of the nose and upper lip; sometimes called the Quadratus labii superiorus |
| Zygomaticus | Major and Minor, are muscles extending from the zygomatic bone to the angle of the mouth; elevates the lip, as in laughing. |
| Masseter and Temporalis | The muscles associated with chewing |
| Auricularis muscles | Muscles of the ear |
| Auricularis Superior | The muscle that moves the ear up |
| Anterior Auricularis | The muscle that moves the ear forward |
| Auricularis Posterior | The muscle that moves the ear backward |
| Platysma | A broad muscle extending from the chest and shoulder muscles to the side of the chin, lowers the lower jaw and lip. |
| Sternocleidomastoid | The muscles extending along side the neck, from the ear to the collarbone; acts to rotate the head side to side and up and down. |
