Interactions of atoms, counting atoms, balancing equations

chemical bond an interaction that holds two atoms together
chemical formula a shorthand way of describing a substance's chemical makeup
chemical equation uses symbols and an arrow to represent the various substances that interact during a reaction
reactants the starting materials in a chemical reaction; found to the LEFT of the arrow
products the substances formed in a reaction; found to the RIGHT of the arrow
law of conservation of mass states that matter is neither created nor destroyed in ordinary physical and chemical changes
coefficient a number that is placed in front of a chemical formula
subscript a small number that is placed AFTER the chemical formula, tells the number of atoms
