| Term | Definition |

| Static Character | A character who begins as having the same emotions and feelings as at the end of the novel. No significant epiphanies or life changing moments happen for this character. |
| Dynamic Character | This is a character who begins the story as one person and then undergoes an emotional change. This character has a life changing moment that changes the way a character thinks or acts. |
| Flat Character | support the main character. They are often referred to as one or two-dimensional characters |
| Round Character | The main character |
| Irony of Situation | The result of an action is the reverse of what is expected. |
| Dramatic Irony | When us the readers know something that they don't |
| Verbal irony | Sarcasm |
| Poetic License | A writer may change the English language to suit his needs within his writing. |
| Portmanteau | a literary device in which two or more words are joined together to coin a new word. |
| Motif | a recurrent image, idea or a symbol that develops or explains a theme |
| Oxymoron | two things that are kinda the opposite of each other |
| Malapropism | a use of an incorrect word in place of a similar sounding word that results in a nonsensical and humorous expression. "Upsetting the apple fart, " instead of “Upsetting the apple cart.” |
