California immigration Cali began gaining large #s of immigrants bc of great gold rush. brought in large #s of French, German, Italian, British, Chinese, Filipino, + Mexican immigrants. constantly changing immigrant communities have effected state's development
John Quincy Adams secretary of state, served as 6th pres. under Monroe. 1819, he drew up Adams-Onis treaty in which Spain gave us Florida in exchange for US dropping its claims to Texas. Monroe doctrine was mostly Adams' work
Monroe Doctrine An American foreign policy opposing interference in western hemisphere from outside powers
Filibustering the senate tradition of unlimited debate undertaken for the purpose of preventing action on a bill
