How do humans process the chaos? They normalize it. The LA news reported Ares fired a shotgun at a police car, accidentally hitting a gas main that ruptured during the earthquake
What is Percy's new persona? Percy and his friends become "victimized kids" kidnapped by the "crazy man" Percy plays the hero who stole a gun and fought the captor, leading to the explosion
What is the free appliance scam? Percy tells reporters his stepfather, "Smelly Gabe" is so grateful he will reward everyone in LA with a free major appliance (Gabe's store phone number is given)
How do the three afford the flight? The reporters are so moved they raise money for the trio to fly to NY
Why is the flight hard? Percy is a son of POseidon, and flying is Zeus's domain. Every turbulence feels life-threatening
How do they avoid the press? Annabeth uses her invisible Yankee cap to lure the New York press away, shouting, "They're over by the frozen yogurt!"
What is the plan for dealing with the gods? Percy insists on going to Olympus alone. He wants Annabeth and Grover to survive to tell Chiron the truth if the gods don't believe him.
How does Percy gain access to Olympus? The guard: percy enters the Empire State Building, asks for the "six hundredth floor," and uses the Master Bolt to prove he means business
What happens when Percy gain access to Olympus? The elevator trick: He inserts the guard's key card, revealing a red 600 button. The elevator plays Muzak ("Raindrops keep fallin' on my head")
