| Ozone Layer | A layer that blocks harmful UV radiation from the sun |
| Montreal Protocol | An international agreement that phases out chemicals that destroy the ozone layer |
| Kyoto Protocol | An international agreement focused on reducing global greenhouse gas emissions |
| Temperature Inversion | A condition where warm air traps cooler air near the ground |
| Heat Island | A city area that is significantly warmer than nearby rural areas |
| Ozone Hole | A seasonal thinning of ozone over Antarctica |
| Desertification | The spread of deserts into previously fertile land |
| Biological Pest Control | Using natural predators to control pest populations |
| Chlorofluorocarbons CFCs | Chemicals that destroy ozone in the stratosphere |
| Erosion | The breaking apart and movement of soil or rock |
| Point Source Pollution | Pollution that comes from a single identifiable source |

| Nonpoint Source Pollution | Pollution that comes from many diffuse sources |
| Acid Precipitation | Rain that contains unusually high concentrations of acid |
| Potable Water | Water that is safe for drinking |
| Aquifer | An underground layer of rock or sediment that holds water |
| Compost | broken down organic material used to enrich soil |
| Salination | the buildup of salt in soil that makes it less fertile |
| Aquaculture | the raising of fish or other aquatic organisms for food or resources |
