Angle Relationships
Vertical, Adjacent, Supplementary, Complementary, Parallel Line Transversals
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| alternate exterior angles | outside the parallel lines and are on opposite sides of the transversal. They are congruent. |
| alternate interior angles | inside the parallel lines, opposite sides of the transversal; they are congruent |
| same-side (consecutive) interior angles | inside the parallel lines, same side of the transversal; they are supplementary |
| same-side (consecutive) exterior angles | outside the parallel lines, same side of the transversal; they are supplementary |
| corresponding | same position |
| sum | addition |
| adjacent | next to |
| corresponding angles | Angles in the same position- on same side of the transversal and the same side of the parallel lines; they are congruent |
| supplementary angles | angles whose sum is 180 degrees |
| linear pair | adjacent angles that are supplementary; form a straight line |
| vertical angles | a pair of opposite angles formed by intersecting lines; they are congruent. |
| parallel lines | lines that never intersect |
| transversal | A line that cuts across two (or more) lines. |
| complementary angles | angles whose sum is 90 degrees |
| vertex | The common endpoint of the rays forming an angle |
| adjacent angles | angles that share a vertex and a common side |
| congruent | same shape and same size |
| List of Congruent Angles | Vertical, Corresponding, Alternate Interior, Alternate Exterior |
| List of Supplementary Angles | Linear Pair, Same-Side Interior, Same-Side Exterior |
| acute angle | angle whose measure is between 0 and 90 degrees |
| obtuse angle | angle whose measure is between 90 and 180 degrees |
| straight angle | angle whose measure is exactly 180 degrees |
| right angle | angle whose measure is exactly 90 degrees |
