What are the signs that it is preterite? De repente (suddenly), interruptions with cuando, specificed times (ayer, la semana pasada, el año pasado).
What are the signs that it is imperfect? Siempre (always), a menudo (often), todos los días, cada día, normalmente o generalmente, mientras (while)
When would you use the preterite? An action that began or ended at a specific time in the past, the beginning or end of an action (empezar o terminar), Expresses a series of completed events.
When would you use the imperfect? A repeated or habitual action, an action that continued for a period of time not specified, time, simultaneous ongoing actions, and descriptions of people, places, weather, emotions.
