organism a complete individual living being that has all the characteristics for life
digestive system a group of organs that break down food into smaller molecules for energy, growth and repair. starts with he mouth, esophagus, stomach, then intestines.
respiratory system a network of organs and tissues that makes you breathe, taking in oxygen and expels carbon dioxide
nervous system a complex network of nerves and cells that transmits signals to different parts of your body. includes brain and spinal cord.
skeletal system provides support and protection and enables movement. includes bones.
Integumentary System the body's outer covering. it protects your body; includes hair, skin, nails, and glands.
Immune & Lymphatic Systems immune system is your body's defense force against harmful invaders like bacteria and viruses. lymphatic system plays a role in fluid balance.
urinary system responsible for producing, storing, and eliminating urine from your body
cardiovascular system also known as circulatory system, it is made up of veins, your heart and arteries. it ensures that every cell gets oxygen and nutrients .
reproductive system the continuation of species through fertilization, and in females, giving birth
endocrine system it is like your body's internal communication network using hormones. it works closely to the nervous system to coordinate complex bodily activities to keep everything running smoothly.
muscular system composed of all the muscles in your body that work together to produce movement. there is skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle.
cadaver a human or animal body that has died and is being preserved for scientific study or medical training.
Physiological Time of Death The exact moment when a person dies
Estimated Time of Death the approximate time an individual is believed to have died
Legal Time of Death the official declared time of death, determined by a medical professional
Postmortem Changes changes that happens to a body after death
Algor Mortis the cooling or heating of the body to match room temperature after death
Rigor Mortis the stiffening of muscles that occurs after death
Livor Mortis when gravity causes the blood to pool in the lowest parts of the body
Decomposition when the body breaks down and causes unpleasant odors
Insect Activity when insects are attracted to a dead body like blowflies and maggots, to lay eggs.
