| Introduction | the opening paragraph or section of a text |
| Thesis Statement | a statement that shares the central idea of an essay |
| Body Paragraph | a paragraph that appears between the introduction and the conclusion of an essay |
| Argumentative Writing | a genre of writing in which a writer presents a central claim and provides reasons and evidence to support that claim |
| Counterclaim | an idea that is contrary to the author’s position or point of view; an opposing claim |
| Organizational Structure | the order or pattern that a writer uses to organize information, such as cause-and-effect or compare-and-contrast |
| Credible Source | a source that is trustworthy and believable |
| Reason | an explanation that states why others should accept a claim |
| Relevant | appropriate and logically related to the topic |
