| Drug Vehicles | Therapeutically inactive substances that transports a drug. |
| 1. Liquid Preparations | |
| a. Aqueous Solution | Sterile water containing a drug substance. |
| b. Elixir | Alcohol, sugar, and flavoring with a drug dissolved in solutions, designed for internal consumption. |
| c. Liniment | Alcohol or oil containing a dissolved drug, designed for external massage. |
| d. Spirit | A drug dissolved in water and alcohol or in alcohol alone. |
| e. Suspension | Undissolved powder in a fluid medium; must be mixed well by shaking before use. |
| f. Syrup | A mixture of sugar and water containing a drug. |
| 2. Solid Preparations | |
| a. Ampule | A closed glass receptacle containing a drug. |
| b. Capsule | A gelatin receptacle containing a drug. |
| c. Ointment | A semisolid preparation for external application of such consistence that it may be applied to the skin by inunction. |
| d. Paste | An insert powder combined with water. |
| e. Tablet | A solid pharmaceutical dosage compressed into a small oval, circle square, or other form. |
| f. Plaster | A substance intended for external application, made of such materials and of such consistency as to adhere to the skin and thereby attach a dressing. |
| g. Powder | Finely ground drug plus vehicle or effervescent granules. |
| h. Suppository | A medicated gelatin molded into a cone for placement in a body orifice. |
