| habituaton | individuals development of a physiological need for a specific medication |
| hypersensitivity | allergic response to a specific drug, skin irritation itching, rash, or a severe anaphylactic rx |
| Idiosyncrasy | unusual rx to a drug, a distinctive response |
| irritation | process, as well as effect, caused by substances that result in a cellular change |
| paradoxical reaction | drug induced effect that is the exact opposite of that which is therapeutically intended |

| synergistic effect | result that occurs when drugs given together to produce a greater rx when given alone |
