Drug Administration-Logan Strack

TermDefinition
Internal Administration Drugs can be taken internally thru Inhalation, or administered intradermally, subcutaneouly, intramuscularlu, intranasally etc.
Inhalation Bringing medication or substances to the respiratory tract
Intradermal Drugs administered thru a hyperdermic needle into the skin
Intramuscular Injection directly into the muscle tissue
Intranasal Introducing medication thru the nose into the upper respiratory tract
Intraspinal Injection directly into the spinal column
Intravenous Injection into a vein when immediate reaction is desired
Oral Drug introduced into the mouth to be swallowed into the stomach
Rectal Absorbed in the the mucus lining of the rectum
Sublingual/Buccal Dissolving agents such as tablets into the mucus lining of the mouth
External Administration Administered externally inclundin inunctions, ointments, pastes, plasters, transdermal patches, and solutions
Inunctions oily or medicated substances that are rubed into the skin for local or systemic reaxtions
Ointments oil, petroleum jelly, or lanolin combined with drugs are applied for long-lasting topical medication
Pastes ointments with a nonfat base for a cooling effect
Plasters Thicker than ointments on cloth or paper or directly onto skin
Transdermal patches Adhesive bandages that contain various types of slow release medication gradually absorbing into the skin
Solutions Administered externally and are extremely varied bacteriosutios, Holds a medication
