Temporalis Origin: Temporal Fossa Insertion: Coronoid process of mandible Function: Raises eyebrows, wrinkles forehead.
Masseter Origin: Zygomatic arch Insertion: Angle of ramus of mandible Function: Elevates mandible (closes jaw).
Buccinator Origin: Alveolar processes of maxilla and mandible Insertion: Orbicularis oris Function: Compresses cheek (blowing, sucking).
Orbicularis oculi Origin: Medial orbital margin Insertion: Skin around eyes Function: Closes eyelids (blinking, squinting).
Orbicularis oris Origin: Maxilla and mandible Insertion: Skin of lips Function: Closes and protrudes lips (kissing).
Zygomaticus Origin: Zygomatic bone Insertion: Corner of mouth Function: Elevates corners of mouth (smiling).
Sternohyoid Origin: Manubrium of sternum Insertion: Hyoid bone Function: Depresses hyoid after swallowing.
Sternothyroid Origin: Posterior surface of manubrium Insertion: Thyroid cartilage Function: Depresses thyroid cartilage.
Sternocleidomastoid Origin: Manubrium of sternum & clavicle Insertion: Mastoid process of temporal bone Function: Flexes neck and rotates head.
Mylohyoid Origin: Mandible (mylohyoid line) Insertion: Hyoid bone Function: Elevates floor of mouth during swallowing.
Diagatric (both anterior and posterior bellies) Origin: Mastoid notch of temporal bone & mandible Insertion: Hyoid bone Function: Depresses mandible, elevates hyoid.
