| Codominance | Neither allele is dominant or recessive, so both phenotypes are expressed. |
| Incomplete dominance | Both alleles are partially expressed, producing a blended appearance. |
| Polygenic inheritance | When multiple genes determine a trait. |
| Pedigree | A chart used to trace and study genetic family histories. Like a family tree but used to observe traits. |
| Genetic mutation | A change in DNA. Caused by random changes in DNA, harmful radiation or environmental factors. |
| Genetic disorder | A disease that is caused by changes or mutations in DNA. |
| Sex-linked traits | Carried on the X chromosome. Males are more likely to inherit the trait. |
| Selective breeding | Process of selecting and breeding parent organisms to pass on particular traits. |
| Genetic engineering | Process in which an organism's DNA is purposely changed. |
