Batch Processing The collection and storage of data for processing at a scheduled time when a sufficient amount of data have been accumulated
Real Time Processing The immediate processing of data after the transaction has been occured and the database has been updated at the time of the event
MIS Management Information Systems
What does MIS do? 1. Typically serve middle management and based primarily on internal data sources 2. Provides reports of firm's current performance ; often based on data from TPS 3. Provide right information at the right time at the right format 4. Around key decision
Types of MIS reports? Scheduled Reports Trend Reports The exception reports On-demand reports
DSS Decision Support Systems
What does DSS do? 1. Provides a process to support non-routine decision making in the operations of an organisation 2. Problem is unstructured or when circumstances are difficult to predict
Does the DSS make the decision? No it doesn't; it provides an easy to use interface that guides the decision maker through the decision process
EIS Executive Information Systems
What is EIS? Specific type of DSS targeted at Executives, Directors or Senior Managers who make strategic decisions
