Depressive disorders can be caused by what hormonal imbalance? Hypothyroidism and cushings disease
Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder is defined as Constant and severe irritability and anger.
How often must someone with disruptive mood dysregulation disorder act out to be diagnosed? Temper tantrums out of proportion to the situation at least times per week, and exhibit them in atleast 2 settings.
Why was disruptive move dysregulation disorder introduced? An alarming amount of children and adolescents were being diagnosed with BPD.
Persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia) Low level depressive feelings through most of each day, for the majority of days. Usually not severe enough to require hospitalization
What is the diagnostic criteria for persistent depressive disorder? 2 years in adults, 1 year in children and adolescents. Must have 2 or more of the symptom criteria
Persistent depressive disorder sx Insomnia or hypersomnia, decreased appetite or overeating, low energy, poor self esteem, difficulty thinking, hopelessness.
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder Symptoms decrease significantly or disappear with onset of menstruation.
Hypothyroidism is caused by what hormones being low? T3 and T4 are low.
What is cushings disease? Pituitary tumor causes overproduction of cortisol.
Sig E Caps S: Sleep disturbances I: Loss of interest or pleasure (anhedonia) G: Guilt or worthlessness E: Lack of energy(fatigue) C: Concentration A:Appetite, overeating or undereating P: Psychomotor agitation or retardation S: Suicidal ideation
What are the requirements for major depressive disorder? Atleast 5 or more of the sig e caps in 2 weeks, one sx must be depressed mood or loss of interest.
How long does MDD last? Do they have episodes? Persistence for minimum of 2 weeks to 6 months, lasts more than 2 years, and absence of manic/hypomanic episodes.
When does seasonal affective disorder occur? Fall and winter months, then gain a full remission in the spring
What hormones play a role in stress regulation? Norepinephrine, serotonin, and acetylcholine
Diathesis stress model Diathesis = nature Stress = nurture
Vegetative signs Eating, elimination, sleeping, and sex.
Constricted affect Reduction in the range and intensity of normal expression
Blunted Affect More severe than constricted and represents a significant decrease in emotional reactivity.
Flat Affect No or nearly no emotional expression or reactivity
