What are pharmacodynamics How medications affect the body
WHat are pharmacokinetics? How the body processes medications
What are pharmacogenetics How genetic variations lead to a difference in how individuals and ethnic groups tolerate and respond to medications.
What are the four chemical processes that occur to bring a drug to the point of utilization Absorption, distribution, metabolization, and excretion.
Teratogenic effects Extreme adverse effect that disturbs development of fetus, embryo.
Idiosyncratic response Unique to individuals
Paradoxical response Opposite of what is expected
Black box warnings are Assigned by the FDA for serious adverse reactions.
What is the function of benzodiazepines? Promote GABA activity. Can also be used for alcohol withdrawals, as an antiseizure, and a cns depressant.
