Fraction vocabulary

Math

QuestionAnswer
Fraction A number that shows part of a whole.
Denominator The bottom number in a fraction that tells how many equal parts the whole is divided into.
Numerator The top number in a fraction that tells how many parts are being used or counted.
Least common denominator (lcd) The smallest denominator that two or more fractions have in common.
Least common multiple (lcm) The smallest number that is a multiple of two or more numbers.
Equivalent fraction Fractions that have different numbers but represent the same amount.
Mixed number A number made up of a whole number and a fraction.
Improper fraction A fraction where the numerator is larger than or equal to the denominator.
Greatest common factor (gcf) The largest number that divides evenly to the denominator.
Simplify (simplest form) To make a fraction as small as possible by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number.
