| Alchemy | The process of turning something common into something extraordinary through a impressive of magical process. Often used in old times when in the search for the secret to eternal life. |
| Capricious | Can change suddenly without much rhyme or reason. |
| Intuitive | To base understanding or something on feeling without much logical reasoning or evidence. |
| Nostalgia | A sentimental feeling achieved when thinking about the past. |
| Balk | To be unwilling or hesitant to do something. |
| Prognostication | To predict or prophesize what is going to happen in the future. |
| Conspire | To work together in order to get to a specific goal or achievement. |
| Sacristy | A room in a church that a priest prepares for a service. |
| Theme | The central meaning or lesson that the author wants us to understand |
| Motif | An element that repeats multiple times through the story and has symbolic meaning. |
| Unity | When all the elements work together in order to create a harmonious whole. |
| Love | A universal feeling that is found in all types of literature. Represents human’s nature for connection and emotion. |
| Personal Legend | A person’s destiny or life purpose that needs to be accomplished. |
| Omens | Something that foreshadows a future event. |
| Free Will | A character’s ability to make their own decisions and courses of action. |
| Fate | Events that are already determined by external forces. |
| Inference | Combining what you gain from the text with past experiences to come to a conclusion. Requires reading between the lines. |
| Explicit Textual Evidence | Straightforward information that is given to the reader. It states specifically what it means. |
