QuestionAnswer
Tropism the directional growth or turning movement of an organism, most commonly a plant, in response to an external stimulus like light, gravity, or touch.
Hormone chemical substances that act like messenger molecules in the body.
photoperiodism A plants response to seasonal changes in the length of night and day
Critical night length The number of hours of darkness that determines whether or not plant will flower
dormancy A period of time, when an organism grows or activity stops
List 3 stimuli that produce plant responses light, gravity, and touch
Give an example of both positive and negative tropism growth towards a stimulus, like a plant stem growing toward light
Describe what triggers a plant to flower daylight length (photoperiod), temperature, and maturity, which cause hormonal changes and gene activation
Why dormancy is important allows organisms to survive harsh environmental conditions like extreme temperatures or drought by temporarily halting growth and reducing metabolic activity
