Rule of law Everyone within the country must follow the law the same - no matter position or status
Arbitrary Based on a personal whim or choice rather than on reason, principle, or evidence
Abusive use of government power Any actions by government that either directly or indirectly negatively affects and harms the people in the country
Due process Government is required to follow a set of legal procedures when it attempts to deprive someone of their life, liberty, or property.
Accountability to the law Principle that individuals and institutions are responsible for their actions and must answer for them according to the law
Consistent application of law Principle that similar cases should be treated similarly, ensuring laws are applied uniformly to promote equality and fairness
Enforcement of law Process by which government authorities ensure that laws and regulations are obeyed, (investigating violations, preventing crime, and punishing offenders)
Decisions based on law A court's authoritative determination of the rights and obligations of parties in a legal case, reached after evaluating the specific facts and applying all relevant laws, precedents, or regulations.
Fair procedures Set of principles ensuring that decisions are made in a just and impartial manner, focusing on the fairness of the process rather than the outcome
Transparency of institutions Principle of openness and clarity in an institution's operations, allowing stakeholders access to information about its decision-making processes, actions, and performance
