Chemical and Physical change properties and rules
| Term | Definition |

| Chemical Change | A chemical change, on the other hand, is when a substance is transformed into a new substance. |
| Physical Change | A physical change is when a substance changes its appearance, but it doesn't become a new substance. |
| The Law of Conservation of Mass | in any chemical reaction or physical change, mass is neither created nor destroyed. |
| Reactants | The substances on the left side of a chemical equation |
| Products | The substances created by a reaction, located on the right side of a chemical equation |
| Precipitate | a solid formed when two liquids are combined |
| EVIDENCE OF A CHEMICAL REACTION | Production of a: Odor, new temperature, light, sound, gas, precipitate, or color change |
| Matter | Must have mass and volume |
| Chemical Formula | a shorthand notation using chemical symbols and subscripts |
| Chemical Equation | a symbolic representation of a chemical reaction, using chemical symbols and formulas to show how reactants are transformed into products |
| Oxidation | When iron reacts with oxygen, it forms iron oxide (rust). (losing electrons) |
