2-energy organelles

energy organelles

QuestionAnswer
what are the organelles that have to do with energy? what cells are they found in? mitocondria, chloroplasts, - only found in eukaryotic cells
What is the function of the mitochondria? provides energy for cell through cellular resparation "powerhouse of the cell"
What is cellular respiration? taking sugar (glucose) and oxygen and turning in into carbon dioxide and water and releases energy
What does the mitochondria do to this energy from cellular respiration? it traps it in the form of (temporary) ATP
Makeup of mitocondria has double membrane (double phospholipid bilayer), liquid=MATRIX, enzymes
Inner membrane of mitrocondria folded a lot and has enzymes embedded into it
crysti fold of inner membrane in mitocondira
why are more folds important in mitocondria? there is more surface area for cellular respiration to take place
what is in the matrix of the mitocondria? enzymes are floating in it
Where does cellular respiration take place? 1/2 takes place in matrix 1/2 takes place in crysti
What is special about the mitrocondria involving DNA? it has it's own separate DNA (we get most of this from mother)
What cells are chloroplast found in? plant & algae cells
chloroplast makeup double membrane/phospholipid bilayer, own DNA. ribosomes, stroma
stroma liquid in chloroplasts
what are the membranes that are shaped into discs in chloroplasts? thylakoid (contains chlorophyll that contains green pigment)
grana thylakoid stacks
function of chloroplasts photosythisis (takes carbon dioxide and water and turns in into sugar and oxygen), makes ATP
Both mitochondria and chloroplasts can be ______ when needed. replicated
Both mitochondria started as __________ cells. This is the _______ theory prokaryotic, endosymbiotic
Where does photosynthesis take place? 1/2 of it takes place in the stroma 1/2 takes place in the thylakoid
Plastids are only found in _____ cells plant
What are the 5 plastids? Chloroplasts, leucoplasts, emloplasts, chromoplasts, Gerontoplasts
what is the function of chloroplasts photosythisis
what is the function of lucoplasts and emloplasts storage (usually starches)
what is the function of chromoplasts contain pigment other than green that as the temperature changes, chromoplasts come foreward so the leaves change color
what is the function of gurantoplasts old chloroplasts that don't do photosythisis but can store starch
Similarity and difference of peroxisome to lysosome like lysosomes because it has enzymes but it is not like them because they are not part of the endomembrane system
peroxisome function break down fatty acids from lipids (by taking H off of fatty acid and makes H2O2 and then makes H2O)
Both mitocondia and chloropalsts... deal with energy, have double membrane, have own sperate dna and ribosomes, have liquid and surface where energy can be produced
cytoskeleton function support, shape, track for moving organelles around, anchoring spot for organeels who need to be in one place, movement
what are the 3 proteins cytoskeleton is composed of? microfilaments (smallest), intermediate filaments, microtubules (largest)
what do the microfillaments do? gives tension to hold cell together, allows our muclcles to move
what do the intermediate fillaments do waterproofing and protect from invasion
what are microfillaments, intermediate fillaments, and microtubules made of? microtubleus= actin int. fillaments= karatin microtubles=tubulin
centroles are only found in ______ cells. Every cell has ________ ______. animal, one pair
what are centroels made of microtubules
function of centroels orgainze cell during cell divison by moving to opposite ends of cell and for into spindle to organize DNA
where are cilia and flagella located outside the cell (extracellular) they are outside of plasma membrane and are embedded into it
function of cilia and flagella movement of the cell( "swim")
difference between cilia and flagella cilia(eyelash) are short and there are many while flagella(wip) are longer and there are few
cell wall is only found in ____ cells and is located ________ plant-like cells, outside the cell (extracellular)
In plants the cell wall is made of _____, in fungal cells it is made of ______ cellulose, kitin
when the cell wall first forms it is called a ________, as it frow and matures it becomes a _______ primary cell wall, secondary cell wall
middle Mallela space between primary and secondary cell wall and plasma membrane
inside the middle mallela there is a sticky substance called ______ that does ________ pectin, holds the cell together
cell wall function rigid support and function
what 3 things make up cytoplasm? organelles, cytoskeleton, cytosol
what happens within the cytosol chemical reactions
lyposomes are only found in _____ cells eukaryotic (membrane-lipid biylar- structure) most cells don't have but can be manufactured and artifical
function of lyposomes transports materials (can transport materials through cell into cell
nitroplast discovered in 2024, found in marine allege, plastid, can fix nitrogen by adding it to oxygen
hemifusome discovered in 2025, membrane organelle part of the endomembrane system, job is to sort, recycle waste, and waste management "recycling center"
what 3 things make up the cytoplasm? organelles, cytoskeleton, cytosol
