What was Common Sense? A 47 page pamphlet
What was Common Sense about? It was about stating to the king that the colonies don't need him, are an independent Democratic republic, they are going to fight for their independence.
Who wrote the Declaration of Independence? Thomas Jefferson
When was the declaration written? July 4th, 1776
What is the purpose of the declaration? To split all political connections from Britain

Who did most of the Native Americans side with? Sided with the British to preserve their lands.
What did most women do? Took over duties of men like farms, businesses,and helped with war effort.
Who did most of the African Americans side with? They fought on both sides
What happened at the Battle of New York? British won (lost 400 men) Americans lost 1,000 troops. Washington led 20,000 poorly trained soldiers into a battle with the British and he lost.
What was the battle of Trenton? Washington led 2,400 troops across the Delaware River to Trenton on Christmas night 1776. Washington surprise attacked Hessians and captured 1,000 Hessians.
What was the battle of Saratoga? The British wanted to cut England from the other colonies. King George the third rerouted howe's army which caused the Americans to be able to attack and snipe the British officers causing the British to retreat coming out with an American victory.
Who is Marquis de Lafayette? A man from France who rallied supports for patriots. He also helped Washington get a long with the French.
Who is Baron von Steuben? A man from Germany helped train Washington's army into shape at the Valley Forge.
Who is Bernardo de Galvez? A man from Spain who seized British forts and gave the Americans weapons to fight.
How did the French help in the war? Provided military supplies, financial support, a Navy, and leadership.
What happened at the Valley Forge? Soldiers had to live in harsh conditions for the winter after a tough war. Von Steuben came and whipped Washington's army into shape.
What is the description of the American Navy? There were a few warships with 800 privateers that were armed.
Who is George Rogers Clarke? Washington of the West
What happened at the Battle of Yorktown? The Americans and French trapped Cornwallis on the Yorktown Pennisula and forced the British to surrender.
What is the Treaty of Paris? The treaty that officially ended the Revolutionary War and made the British surrender their loyalty to the colonies.
What is the significance of the Battle of New York? Lowered morale of American troops- Washington had a difficult time keeping soldiers in the Army.
What is the significance of the Battle of New Jersey? Boosted the morale of the American army, kept soldiers enlisted.
What is the significance of the Battle of Saratoga? Turning point of the War and it convinced the French to send troops and money to help the Americans win.
What is the significance of the Valley Forge? Close enough to watch Britain, but far enough not to get surprised by British. Trained army how to fight and it's still discipline.
Who is John Paul Jones? Defeated British ship the Serapis- "I have not yet begun to fight"
What was John Paul Jones claim to fame? Attacked British ships of the American coastline. Father of the American Navy.
What happened out in the West? Led a small force through freezing water to capture Fort Vincennes.
What was the British Plan? The British Plan was to take the major cities in the South and working their way North to Philadelpia. They believed they would get support from loyalists and slaves. British took Savannah (GA) and Charleston (SC).
What happened in the failed attack? The Battle of Camden was a win for the British when Cornwallis defeated 4,000 American troops commanded by General Horatio Gates.
What was Nathaniel Greens plan? Split the army in half and draw Cornwallis away from his coastal bases- the British split their army in half.
What was Francis Marion claim to fame? Led a band of guerilla militia fighters in the carolinas caused the British to chase him and use resuources. (killed 125 British and wounded 80)
What is the significance of the Battle of Yorktown? The battle marked the unofficial end of the war - British surrendered.
What are the conditions of the Treaty of Paris? 1. US is independent 2. Established borders - Atlantic to Mississipi, Canada to Georgia 3. All loyalist property taken from US, had to be returned.
