Explain what happened to start the Trojan War Eris, the goddess of discord, was mad that she wasn't invited to a party on Mt. Olympus, so she threw out a golden apple at the party and it said for the fairest. Athena, Aphrodite and Hera all thought that it would be theirs, so they asked ParisinMt, Ida
Who was Paris in love with? a sea nymph named Oeone
What was Hera's bribe? she would give Paris all of Europe and Asia (power)
What was Aphrodite's bribe? she would make the most beautiful woman fall in love with him immidiately (love)
What was Athena's bribe? she would destroy all of Greece and give him the credit for it, and he would be known as a hero (glory)
Which bribe did Paris choose and what happened? he chose the bribe of Aphrodite, and Helen of Sparta (wife of King Menalaus) was immidiately taken to him, and Kind Menalaus wanted his wife back, so him and his brother Agememnon went to Troy in hopes to kill Paris
What did King Agememnon do? he wanted to rule the world and was power hungry, and he knew that if he could capture Troy that they would have the entire Agean Sea
What was King Prium told that influenced what he did to Paris? he was told that his youngest child would cause Troy to fall, and he didn't want to kill his son, so he told a Shepard and his wife to, but they couldn't so they raised him as their own
What king didn't want to go to war in Troy and why? Odysseus because he had just welcomed his son Telemachys, and he didn't want to leave
What did he do to prevent having to fight and what happened? he pretended to be a farmer, and then they threw Telemachys Infront of the plow and then he accidentally said that he was King and they made him go fight
How long was the Trojan War? 10 years
Why couldn't they end the Trojan War? because the Greeks couldn't get through the gates of Troy
Who was the best warrior of the Greeks? Achilles
Who was Achilles's enemy? King Agememnon
What did Achilles fight for? glory
Who was Petraclus? Achilles's cousin, and one battle when Achilles wasn't there, he wore his armor and then was killed by Hector because Hector thought that he was Achilles
Who was the strongest Trojan fighter? Hector
Who was King Priam? king of Troy, his sons were Paris and Hector
Who killed Hector? Achilles
What did Achilles do when he killed Hector? he dragged Hector's body all over the walls of the city, which was seen as a huge disrespect
What is excessive pride called? hubris
Who killed Achilles Paris, shot him in his heel
What river was Achilles dipped into as a boy to make his body like armor? Styx
Who came up with the idea of the wooden horse trick? Odysseus
What happened with the Trojan horse trick? the Greeks said that it was a gift to the Trojans from the Gods and then they brought it into the walls of Troy and in the middle of the night when the guards were asleep, they brought the army out and they burnt Troy to the ground
What happened to Odysseus after the war? he took credit for winning the war but cursed the gods for having it drag on for 10 years, so then the gods thought that he was committing hubris and they made his journey back home treacherous and made it take 10 years
Who was Odysseus's wife and kid? Penelope and Talamachys
