Phase Different shape of the moon you see
Solar eclipse When the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun during the new moon.
Lunar eclipse Occurs during a full moon when the
Umbra Darkest part of the shadow where light is partially blocked
Penumbra Area of shallow where light is partially blocked.
Tide Daily rise and fall of the ocean water
Spring tide Higher high tide during full and new moon
Neap tide Lower high tide during the first and third quarter moons
Maria Dark, smooth, lava cover areas on the moon
Highlands Higher lighter areas on the moon covered with craters.
