ELA vocab

TermDefinition
Tesserae Small pieces of stone, glass, or ceramic used to create mosaics (In the hunger games, its a food ration).
Sustenance Food and drink regarded as a source of strength; nourishment.
Tunic A loose garment, typically sleeveless and reaching to the wearer's knees, as worn in ancient Greece and Rome.
Apothecary a person who prepared and sold medicines, often made from natural ingredients like herbs and plants
Entrails A person or animal's intestines or internal organs, especially when removed or exposed.
Racketeer A person who engages in dishonest and fraudulent business dealings.
Claustrophobia An irrational and intense fear of enclosed spaces or situations where one feels trapped or confined.
Insurmountable Too great to be overcome.
Tureen A deep covered dish from which soup is served.
Black market An illegal traffic or trade in officially controlled or scarce commodities.
