| Term | Definition |

| Content Analysis | A detailed review of documents that are written, printed, visual, or electronic, providing information or evidence. |
| Phenomenon | An appearance or immediate object of awareness in experience; who or what the study is about. |
| Participants | The specific group of people who will be interviewed or observed. |
| Data | The information collected about the phenomenon, often from the participants. |
| Aggregate | Formed or calculated by the combination of many separate units or items. |
| Groups | E.g., cultures, ethic groups, neighborhoods, and communities. |
| Concept | Includes ideas, notions, and theories, such as "care" or "hope." |
| Processes | Actions; examples include socialization, childbirth, and the civil rights movement. |
| Structures | E.g., organizational structure, including governments, corporations, and universities. |
| Artefacts | E.g., paintings, films, and architecture- with the goal of learning about their lifecycle and its meaning in their cultural context. |
| Ecological Fallacy | Assuming that something learned at the group level applies to an individual. |
