Genetics Vocab #2

TermDefinition
Chromosomes Thread-like structures in the nucleus made of DNA.
DNA Macromolecule that contains an organism's genetic code. Double Helix
Base Pairs DNA is made of 4 nucleotide base pairs. A, C, T, G
Genes Small sections on DNA. Each section is a code for a trait.
RNA Single stranded macromolecule. Carries code for making proteins.
Sexual reproduction Genetic material from 2 different gametes. Uses fertilization & meiosis. Produces genetic variation. Requires time & energy.
Asexual reproduction One parent organism makes offspring. No gametes, fertilization or meiosis. No mate needed. Produces little genetic variation.
