Mixtures & Solutions

TermDefinition
matter anything that takes up space and has mass.
mass the amount of matter (stuff) in an object.
volume the amount of space an object takes up.
density how heavy an object is for its size.
mixture two or more materials mixed together and can be separated.
solution a solid dissolves in water to make a clear liquid.
solute the substance that dissolves in a liquid (salt)
solvent the liquid that a substance dissolves into (water)
property a characteristic of an object (size,color,texture,shape)
evaporation a liquid changes state to a gas (heat)
condensation a gas changes state to a liquid (cool)
concentration the amount of solute in a certain amount of solvent
concentrated a solution that contains a lot of solute ( salt, sugar)
diluted a solution that contains a small amount of solute (salt, sugar)
saturated when no more solute can be dissolved in a solvent
