stem cell a cell that other cells develop from- some are the same types of cells and some can become other specialized types of cells
mutation when the DNA sequence of a living organism is changed for good
mitosis one parent cell splits into 2 DAUGHTER cells that both have the same number of chromosomes
meiosis a call division that cuts the number of chromosomes by 1/2. It makes 4 haploid cells from one diploid parent cell
diploid when you have 2 complete sets of chromosomes, one set from each parent (mother and father)
haploid a single set of chromosomes in an organisms cells
homozygous having 2 identical versions of a gene from each parent like 2 alleles (1 from each parent) for blue eyes
heterozygous having 2 different alleles for a trait (like one allele for brown eyes and one allele for blue eyes)
probability the likelihood or chances of an event occurring. Written between 0 and 1
