Mixtures & Solutions

TermDefinition
Mass The amount of stuff that makes up an object
Volume The amount of space an object takes up
Density How heavy an object is compared to its size
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space
Mixtures Two or more materials that are mixed together and can be taken apart
Solutions A solid dissolves into water to make a clear liquid
Solute The substance that dissolves into a liquid (salt)
Solvent The liquid that a substance dissolves into (water)
Evaporation When a liquid changes state to a gas (heat)
Condensation When a gas changes state to a liquid (cools)
Property A characteristic of an object that can be observed (size, color, shape, texture)
Concentration The amount of solute in a certain amount of solvent
Concentrated A solution that contains a lot of solute (salt, sugar)
Diluted A solution that contains a small amount of solute (salt, sugar)
Saturated When no more solute can be dissolved in a solvent
