| Stimulus / Response | Stimulus = Anything that causes an action or response. Response = An action which is the result of a stimulus. |
| Neuron | A single nerve cell that transmits electric impulses. |
| Sensory Receptor | A nerve ending that responds to a stimulus in the environment. ( We have them for touch, taste, hearing, sight and smell). |
| Motor Neuron | Neurons that carry signals from the spinal cord to the muscles to produce movement. |
| Synapse | The tiny gap between the axon of one neuron and the dendrite of another. |
| Axon | A threadlike extension of a neuron that carries nerve impulses away from the cell body. |
| Dendrite | A branch that extends from a neuron's cell body and receives incoming information. |
| Nerve | The “electric wire” that makes up the brain and the structures of the nervous system. |
| Neurotransmitter | A chemical that is released when an electric impulse reaches the end (axon) of a neuron. |
| Memory | an experience that stimulates many of your senses and it causes a complex network of neurons to be built (connected in your brain). |
