TermDefinition
Enjambment the continuation of a phrase or sentence from one line to the next without any punctuation
Anaphora the repetition of a word or words at the beginning of successive phrases
Anadiplosis a word or phrase at the end of one sentence or clause and at the beginning of the subsequent one
Epistrophe figure of speech in which one or more words repeat at the end of successive phrases, clauses, or sentences
Syndoche a literary device in which a part of something is substituted for the whole
Cacophony harsh sounds
euphony pleasant sounds
caesura a pause in a poem
assonance the repetition of a vowel sound in nearby words and can be at the beginning, middle, or end of a word
Consonance the repetition of a consonant sound at the beginning, middle, or end of the word
