Ancient Rome

Colosseum The Colosseum is a big stadium in Rome where people watched gladiator fights and shows with animals.
What is chariot racing? Chariot racing is a sport where horses pull a small cart called a chariot, and racers try to go the fastest around a track.
What is a stola? A stola is a long dress that Roman women wore, usually made of light fabric.
What is a toga? A toga is a special robe that Roman men wore, made from a large piece of cloth wrapped around their bodies.
What is a villa? A villa is a big house in the country where rich Romans lived, often with pretty gardens.
What is a domus? A domus is a type of house in ancient Rome where wealthy families lived, usually with a central open area.
What is a peristylum? A peristylum is a garden area surrounded by columns in a Roman house, filled with plants and statues.
What is a patrician? A patrician is a rich and powerful person in ancient Rome who often had important jobs in government.
What is a plebian? A plebian is a common person in ancient Rome, like a farmer or worker, who had fewer rights than patricians.
What is a tunic? A tunic is a simple piece of clothing that both men and women wore in ancient Rome.
What is the Circus Maximus The Circus Maximus is a large place in ancient Rome where people watched chariot races.
What is a temple? A temple is a building where Romans prayed to their gods and goddesses.
What is cremation? Cremation is when a body is burned after someone dies, turning it into ashes.
Who are Mars and Juno Mars and Juno are Roman gods; Mars is the god of war, and Juno is the goddess of marriage.
What is Pompeii Pompeii is an ancient Roman city that was covered by volcanic ash when a volcano erupted, which helped preserve it.
What is a gladiator? A gladiator is a fighter in ancient Rome who battled in arenas for people to watch.
Who is an emperor An emperor is the ruler of an empire, the most important person in ancient Rome who controlled everything.
