ECR Writing Guide

QuestionAnswer
hook grabs the readers attention or provides summary of the text
thesis statement Restate the question and answer the question.
key idea the answer to the prompt. One is written in the topic sentence of each body paragraph.
text evidence the phrase or sentence that supports the key idea
explanation of text evidence the writer explains how the text evidence proves that the key idea or answer is correct
conclusion the last sentence of a paragraph or the last paragraph of an essay
wrap-up Transition words that show the end of a paragraph or essay (In conclusion/In summary/To sum up)
restate thesis Part of the conclusion where the thesis statement is written in a different way
takeaway Part of the conclusion where the writer expresses something he/she has learned from the text
