Cell cycle

QuestionAnswer
What is the cell cycle? When cells go through a series of events as they grow and divide
What happens during prophase? The duplicated chromosomes condense into thick visible strands
What happens during metaphase? The central measures of the duplicated chromosomes lineup across the center of the cell
What happens during anaphase? The chromosome separate and move spindle fibers to opposite ends of the cell
What happens during telophase? The chromosomes began to coil again into a tangle of chromatin
What happens during cytokinesis? Cytoplasm divides forming two separate cells from one
Describe how a eukaryotic cells chromosomes change as the cell prepares to divide As a cell prepares to divide the DNA in each chromosome is replicated so that each chromosome is doubled
What is the relationship between interphase and cell division? Interphase occurs before cell division. It is the period when cells are growing and preparing for cell division.
Sister chromatids are attached to each other at an area called Centromere
If a cell has 12 chromosomes, how many chromosomes will each of its daughter cells have after mitosis and cytokinesis 12 chromosomes
And plant cells, what forms midway between the divided nuclei during cytokinesis? Cell plate
What are phases of the cell cycle? Telephase, metaphase, interphase, anaphase and prophase
The sister chromatids are moving apart Anaphase
The nuclear membrane fades from view Prophase
A new nuclear membrane is forming around the chromosomes Telophase
The cytoplasm of the cell is being divided Telophase
The chromatin is found in the nucleus Interphase
The chromosomes are located in the middle of the cell Metaphase
The spindles disappear Telophase
Animal cells began to split in half at the cleavage furrow Telophase
The spindle fibers are formed Prophase
Chromatids lineup along with the center of the cell Metaphase
Chromosomes are not visible Interphase
Cytokinesis begins Telophase
The cell plate in plants begins to form Telophase
