Who is known as the Sun King? Louis XIV (fourteenth)
What was the Reign of Terror? Who was in charge of it? A dark and violent period of time during the French Revolution. Led by Maximilien Robespierre.
What happened when Louis XVI (sixteenth) called the estates general to meet? Why did he do that and what was the outcome? It started the French Revolution. The government had financial problems. Led to the French Revolution and ended monarchy.
What happened at the Tennis Court Oath? Three estates met up for a National Assembly, there they would vote, by population, on a constitution for France
What happened at the Bastille? Why is this important to the French Revolution? The French army attacked the Bastille for ammunition that was believed to be stored at the fortress. First instances of the French lower classes taking power into their own hands.
Who inspired the French to revolt? Resentment of the French monarchy and King Louis XVI's misguided economic policies
Who was Marie Anotoinette? Why did people hate her? Louis XVI's wife. She was expensive, known as "out-of-control spendthrift"
Why would other countries like Austria and Prussia wish to restore the French Monarchy? Bring stability and order in France
Why did Napoleon take over power? People turned to him when the government got out of hand because he was a popular military hero
Describe Napoleon as a leader. What was his goal? He was smart, good strategies, one of the best leaders. Unified Europe, everlasting peace.
What ended up happening to Napoleon? He was exiled to St. Helena where he died six years later.
What occurred at the Congress of Vienna? Restored the Monarchy to France, wanted to make sure no country became too powerful, France lost all territory Napoleon had conquered, and Louis XVIII (eighteenth) was appointed King of France.
How did the French Revolution end? Napoleon took power
Effects of the French Revolution? End of monarchy, rise of equality, led to wars
