TermDefinition
Random Variable Takes numerical values that describe the outcomes of a random process
Probability distribution Gives all possible values and their probabilities for a random variable
Discrete random variable "Takes a fixed quantitative variable that is a finite or countable number of distinct values, often whole numbers" (0,1,2,3)
Unimodal distribution Has one peak, so one single mode
Bimodal distribution Has two peaks, so two modes
Expected value Mean of the discrete random variable (x); E(x)
Mean (expected value) of a discrete random variable average value over many, many trials of the same random process
