| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Random Variable | Takes numerical values that describe the outcomes of a random process |
| Probability distribution | Gives all possible values and their probabilities for a random variable |
| Discrete random variable | "Takes a fixed quantitative variable that is a finite or countable number of distinct values, often whole numbers" (0,1,2,3) |
| Unimodal distribution | Has one peak, so one single mode |
| Bimodal distribution | Has two peaks, so two modes |
| Expected value | Mean of the discrete random variable (x); E(x) |
| Mean (expected value) of a discrete random variable | average value over many, many trials of the same random process |
