what does abiotic and biotic mean? abiotic=non living biotic=living (think bio for biology)
how much does oxygen does the Amazon rainforest produce 20% of our oxygen.
what are decomposers? They decompose things with rot. e.g. bacteria, earthworm, mould
what is ecotourism and why is it good? tourists coming on holiday/retreats in places like the Amazon rainforest. See the beauty and importance, so less likely to support destruction of it.
what are consumers? they consume things. e.g. animals
what are producers? they produce things e.g. cows with milk, plants
how can we manage deforestation sustainably? use less products with palm oil in, selective (good kind) logging, eat less cattle meat. Use less wood when building (use bricks instead?)
What is the nutrient cycle? The recycling cycle of an ecosystem- biomass, litter, soil transfers nutrients in a neverending cycle.
which of the tree layers are the most diverse? the canopy layer is, with birds, large animals, reptiles and birds and insects. .
what is a carnivore only eat meat
what is an omnivore eat meat and plants
what is herbivore only eat plants
what is fauna and flora fauna is animals (think baby deer, faun) flora is plants (think florist or flower)
what is the emergent layer layer of TRF that is at the very top of the TRF trees compete to get here. with mostly birds and insects here.
what is the canopy layer most diverse of the layers, with reptiles, birds, insects and large animals.
what is the understory quite damp and dark. not many animals other than insects
what is the forest floor? biggest of the animals here. Many plants and trees, lots of foliage.
qualities of a hot desert? camels, little animals, cacti, hot, dry air, hot days and cold nights. e.g. Sahara desert
qualities of savannah think of the lion king. warm temperatures, long grass. little trees. giraffe, elephants and lions
TRF (tropical rainforest), what are the qualities hot and humid. thick foliage. lots of reptiles, large animals, frogs, birds.
temperate forest qualities deciduous, coniferous. England has many, for example. many foxes, deer, badgers, birds. moderate temperature.
