| Term | Definition |

| phenomenon | appearance or immediate object of awareness in experience. |
| research question | an interrogative sentence that highlights the phenomenon to be studied and indicates what the researcher wants to know about it. |
| socialization | processes by which individuals acquire the habits, beliefs and accumulated knowledge of society through education and training for membership in a group or organization. |
| validity | ensuring that the experiment is designed effectively to measure the subject variables. |
| reliability | ensuring that the experiments can repeatedly measure these variables accurately. |
| internal validity | the true causes of the results you uncovered. |
| external validity | an evaluation of the extent to which results may be assumed true for other cases. |
| critcality | the behavior of those who are engaged in research process in qualitative research. |
| emic perspective | or insider’s view/perspective.. It focuses on how participants of a study understand, interpret, and make sense of their experiences in their own cultural or social context. |
| Multiple realities | in the very basic sense is that different people view things differently. |
| Researcher as Instrument | meaning the researcher is the primary tool for collecting and interpreting data. As a researcher your personal background, beliefs, and biases influence how you see and understand what's happening in the research setting |
| Congruence of Philosophy and Methods | means that the research methods should align with the researcher's philosophical stance. |
| Thick Description | goes beyond just stating facts and will likely include detail, context, emotions, and interpretations that help readers fully understand a situation. |
