| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| energy | the ability to do work. |
| food | organic molecules that store energy in their chemical bonds |
| autotrophs | organisms that make their own food |
| photosynthesis | organisms that uses sunlight energy to make food |
| producers | organisms that make their own food not just for themselves but for other living things. |
| heterotrophs | living things that cannot make their own food. |
| consumers | organisms that get their food by consuming other organisms |
| glucose | a simple carbohydrate with the chemical formula (C6H12O6.) |
| cellular respiration | The process in which glucose is broken down and ATP is made |
| light reactions | water and changes light energy from the sun into chemical energy stored in ATP and NADPH |
| Calvin cycle | combines carbon from carbon dioxide in the air and uses the chemical energy in ATP and NADPH to make glucose. |
| stroma | the space outside the thylakoid membranes. |
| chloraphyll | a green pigment |
| photosystems | groups of molecules |
| thylakoid membranes | sac-like membrane |
| electron transport chain | a series of electron-transport molecules, |
| chemosynthesis | some bacteria make food by another process, which uses chemical energy instead of light energy |
| grana | Each chloroplast contains neat stacks |
