4 Beryllium Found in Emerald and Aquamarine crystals; used in space telescopes to withstand high temperatures
5 Boron Burns green (used in fireworks); second hardest element; strengthens cell walls in plants
6 Carbon Diamonds are made from crystallized carbon, which forms under high pressure and heat
7 Nitrogen Makes up the majority of Earth's atmosphere; key component in DNA; extremely common in explosives; what Mr. Spang is using to make ice cream
8 Oxygen Third most abundant element in the universe; excited oxygen atoms are responsible for the green and red colors in the aurora borealis; solid oxygen is magnetic
9 Fluorine Fluoride ions (Fluoride with an extra electron) are added to toothpaste to prevent tooth decay
10 Neon It's actually colorless, but turns reddish-orange when electric currents pass through it
11 Sodium Your body loses sodium when sweating (along with other elements); males of certain butterfly species collect sodium for mates, a behavior known as "puddling"
12 Magnesium Burns white; common in epsom salts
13 Aluminum Most abundant metal in Earth's crust; used to be considered more valuable than gold
