Evolution

Evolution Evolution is the process of change in living organisms over time through genetic modification, resulting in the development of new species from common ancestors
Natural selection Natural selection is the process by which organisms with traits better suited to their environment survive and reproduce more successfully, passing those advantageous traits to their offspring

Adaptation the process of adjusting to new conditions, the modification of an organism through natural selection, and the creation of a new work based on an existing one
Population the total number of people living in a specific country, region, or the world
Homologous structure similar anatomical features in different species that have a common origin but may have evolved to have different functions
Vestigial structure a physical feature or behavior that has lost its original function through evolution but remains in an organism as a remnant of an ancestral trait
Divergent Evolution the process where closely related species or populations accumulate differences, leading to the formation of new species from a common ancestor
Convergent Evolution the process where unrelated organisms independently evolve similar traits because they adapt to similar environments or ecological niches
Analogous Structure body parts in different species that have similar functions but evolved independently, without a common ancestor
Embryology the scientific study of the formation and development of an embryo and fetus from fertilization until birth
Inherited to receive something from a predecessor, whether it's property, a quality, or a genetic trait passed down from parents
Acquired Traits characteristics that an organism develops during its lifetime, rather than being born with them
Artificial Selection the process where humans intentionally choose plants and animals with desirable traits to reproduce and pass those traits to offspring
Mutation a change in the DNA sequence of a cell, which can occur spontaneously or be caused by environmental factors like chemicals or radiation
