Argument Writing
| Term | Definition |

| Argument | (Speaking or writing) to convince a reader that a point of view is valid, or to persuade the reader to take a specific action |
| Bias | a preference for or against something. It can influence how people interpret information, or act with others. |
| Perspective | Point of view; your way of looking at an issue |
| Fact | Science says. Not arguable. |
| Opinion | One's feelings or beliefs on a topic. This is arguable. |
| Primary Source | The original information--a document, an eye-witness account. |
| Secondary Source | Someone retells about an original fact, document, or event |
| Claim | A statement of belief--the viewpoint or position of the author |
| Support | Information that assists the claim |
| Reason | Supportive statement that "backs" or justifies the claim. It explains why the claim is to be believed. |
| Rebuttal | The act of disagreeing with the argument. It is a chance to address the competing side of the issue. |
