| Space | The layout and patterns of a certain area, and the first S in the acronym SPICESS | The layout of a City Block. |
| Place | The meaning and purpose of a certain area given to it by people, and the P in SPICESS | My house that I eat and sleep at. |
| Interconnection | How different parts of the area relate to each other and give them purpose, and the I in SPICESS. | The food web of animals in a forest. |
| Change | How the area develops or grows over time, and the C in SPICESS | Iceland slowly spreading. |
| Environment | The organisms and terrain making up livable space, and the E in SPICESS. | Jungles, forests and deserts. |
| Scale | The size of the area compared to other areas, and the second S in SPICESS | A country is much bigger than a state. |
| Sustainability | How humans can conserve the environments in an area, and the last S in SPICESS | Solar panels create energy cleanly and pollute the earth less. |
| Terrestrial Biomes | Biomes primarily on land. | Forests, Deserts and Tundras are good examples. |
| Oceanic Biomes | Biomes primarily in the water. | Coral reefs, lakes and oceans are good examples. |
| Intensive Farming | Using a small amount of land to farm. | Poultry farms and animal farms. |
| Extensive Farming | Using a larger amount of land to farm. | A good example is crop farms. |
| Hotter Climate | A biome with a higher temperature, and generally suitable for farming. | Deserts, Savannas and Tropical Rainforests. |
| Colder Climate | A biome with a lower temperature, and usually less suitable for farming. | Boreal Forests and Tundra |
