Plant vs Animal Cell
Identify organelles within a Plant or Animal Cell
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| cell membrane | Hold and protect the cell. Control the movement of materials into and out of the cell. |
| cell wall | Only found in plant cells. Surrounds and protects the cell. Makes the cell stiff and strong. |
| chloroplast | A watery, gel-like substance that cushions and protects the organelles. |
| golgi apparatus | Ships things created by the ER and ribosomes to the rest of the cell. |
| lysosome | Digests food particles, wastes, cell parts, and foreign invaders. |
| mitochondria | Breaks down materials to release energy for the cell. |
| nucleus | Brain of the cell. Controls all cell activities including how the cell grows, develops, and divides. |
| nucleolus | Makes ribosomes. |
| nuclear membrane | Protects the nucleus. Controls the movement of materials into and out of the nucleus. |
| ribosomes | Use amino acids to make proteins needed to run the cell. |
| endoplasmic reticulum (smooth and rough) | Transports materials within the cell. |
| vacuole | Store water, food, waste, and chemicals. |
