| What do people leave on these alters? | The dead person's favourite things like food, drinks, or toys if they were a child. They also put down incense, decorative papers, photos, decorations, flowers, candles, along with their favourite and important personal things. |
| What is an incense? | A small, scented stick that produces smoke when burned believing the smoke will help guide spirits home. |
| What do Mexicans believe about Monarch butterflies? | Monarch butterflies represent the souls of their loved ones returning as Monarch butterflies return from their migration each year just before the 1st of November. |
| What are calacas? | Art made for the Day of the Dead by artist that are small skeleton sculptures for decorative purposes. |
| What is papel picado? | Another type of art made for this day that's a decorative paper made by cutting holes in colourful tissue paper and is hung on alters and buildings like homes and on the streets. |

| What is the bread called and what is it used for? | Pan de muerto and is used to remember and honour deceased loved ones. |
| What do the sugar skulls represent? | The sweetness of life and the dead still being with us in spirit. |
| Why are bone patterns put into pan de muerto? | To represent the bones of deceased family members. |
| What are tombs decorated with in cemeteries? | Marigolds. |

| Why do Mexicans believe all these things in the first place? | They believe if they leave their offerings, the spirits of the Dead will come back to them to visit during these days. |
